Barrister Sumon sent to jail after remand

Former lawmaker Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon was sent to jail on completion of his two-day remand in connection with an attack on protesters during the quota reform movement on July 16.
A Habiganj court on November 21 granted a two-day remand for the former MP following a request from Chunarughat Police Station Sub-inspector Liton Roy.
After the interrogation at Chunarughat Police Station, Judicial Magistrate Kamrul Hasan today ordered police to send Sumon back to jail for security reasons.
Chunarughat Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Nazrul Islam said, “Details of the information collected from the accused cannot be revealed at this stage of the probe. The police will provide further details once the investigation is done.”
Jail Superintendent Mujibur Rahman said, “Barrister Sumon was brought to Habiganj on November 20 for the hearing of the Chunarughat case. As there is an ongoing case in Dhaka, preparations are being made to send him to Dhaka Central Jail.”
On July 16, a case was filed at Chunarughat Police Station against Sumon and 97 others as suspects in the attack on protesters at Shayestaganj Notun Bridge in Habiganj. Additionally, he is also accused of several other cases related to an arson attack at the government postal bungalow at Madhabpur in Habiganj, as well as an assault on the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement in Banasree, Dhaka.
The former lawmaker was arrested in Mirpur, Dhaka on October 22.
